Information Literacy Research Seminar 2010
Invitation to participate
A research seminar on information literacies is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of June 2010 within the framework of the CoLIS conference. Issues concerning information literacies (and other related literacies such as media literacies, digital literacies etc) have attracted increased attention among researchers during the last decades. The Information Literacy Research Seminar 2010 aims to bring together junior and senior researchers in the field in order to discuss current and future research. The seminar will create opportunities to examine information literacy research, both theoretically, methodologically and empirically, seen from a broad and inclusive perspective. The aim is to strengthen collaboration in information literacy research and to identify and formulate important future research tasks.
Format
The research seminar will take the form of discussions starting from presentations of participants' past, on-going and/or planned research. We are looking for work in progress rather than papers ready for publication. The focus will be on discussions and the sharing of ideas and experiences.
The seminar will extend over a half day period and it will require active participation.
Further details on the seminar programme will be announced in due course.

Doctoral Forum
We invite doctoral students to a Doctoral Forum held in connection to the main conference of CoLIS 7. Doctoral students are given the opportunity to share their work-in-progress with invited senior researchers and with the other student participants in an open and supportive atmosphere.
Objectives
The Doctoral Forum is intended to provide a setting for discussion of doctoral students’ research projects with invited senior researchers and other participating students in a constructive spirit and taking into consideration the diversity of contemporary LIS. A further objective is to act as a platform initiating international contacts with other doctoral students and researchers and enabling future collaboration.
Selection of Participants
In order to provide each participant with sufficient time for presentation and discussion, the number of participating doctoral students is restricted. If necessary, a selection will be made based on the participant’s anticipated contribution to the forum objectives.
Invited senior researchers
- Jack Andersen, Royal School of Library and Information Science, Copenhagen, Denmark
- Theresa Dirndorfer Anderson, University of Technology, Sydney, Australia
- Ian Ruthven, University of Strathclyde, UK

These do not need to fit within the word limit. The description should include the working title, outline the research problem and theoretical framework, describe suggested methods, and give a description of your progress as well as a future work plan. Specifically include in your description problems you have encountered and would like to discuss at the Doctoral Forum or questions you would like to raise.

Applicants to the Doctoral Forum will be notified of acceptance by March 1, 2010.
What will happen at the Forum?
The Doctoral Forum takes place on the day before the main conference begins. Participation in the doctoral forum is restricted to the accepted doctoral students and the invited researchers.
The participating doctoral students will present their work, based on their thesis summaries, to the other doctoral students and the participating senior researchers. Each presentation will be followed by a discussion intended to help the presenting student to reflect on and get on with their thesis work. The main focus will lie with the discussion of the respective research project, starting from the problems and/or questions posed in the submitted thesis descriptions.
Credits
It is recommended that students participating in the Doctoral Forum will be awarded 2 ECTS credits by their home department. Students will be presented with a certificate upon completed participation in the Doctoral Forum.
